On February 14, 2025, the U.S. Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) delivered some much-needed vehicles to the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti.

Specifically enhancing the capabilities of the Haitian National Police (HNP). This delivery included 20 additional armored personnel carriers (APCs), which are crucial for improving security operations in the country. With this addition, the total number of MSS personnel in Haiti now stands at approximately 1,000, aimed at bolstering security for both the local population and the broader region.

The MSS mission, which is led by Kenya and supported by various nations including Jamaica and Belize, was established to assist Haiti in restoring law and order amidst escalating gang violence and civil unrest. The mission has faced challenges such as insufficient staffing and equipment, but recent contributions from the U.S. are intended to enhance operational effectiveness against gangs.

The U.S. has committed to ongoing support for Haiti’s security needs, reflecting a broader strategy to stabilize the region and facilitate humanitarian efforts. This recent delivery underscores a significant investment in resources that are essential for the HNP’s anti-gang operations
