H.E. Jean-Victor Harvel Jean Baptiste, the Haitian Chancellor, participated in the OAS Assembly in Washington to contribute to the discussions for the election of the new Secretary General as part of Haiti’s commitment to the OAS. The election of the Secretary General, who will lead the OAS for the period 2025-2030, was held on March 10, 2025. The term of the current Secretary General, Luis Almagro, ends on May 25, 2025.
The new Permanent Representative of Haiti to the OAS, Myrtha Désulmé, presented her credentials on February 20, 2025, and reaffirmed Haiti’s commitment to work with the OAS to defend democratic principles, promote human rights, and support sustainable development. The OAS also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening democracy in Haiti, with a focus on free and fair elections and the promotion of national dialogue.
